2016 Highlights

Featured guest speaker: Dr. Gregory Frazier

Gregory Frazier has ridden around the world enough to know what it takes to be a world traveler on a motorcycle. But during his journeys he often wondered about the first person who rode around the world and eventually traced that path as closely as he could. In his recent book, Motorcycle Adventurer, Frazier chronicles Carl Stearns Clancy around-the-world tour in 1912-13. For his rally presentation, he'll be sharing a number of images that portray the trip, the trials and the tribulations. Don't miss this!

The Historic Maryhill Loops Road

Saturday afternoon, come ride a piece of history, the very first paved road ever built in America west of the Mississippi, and the model for future roads to come.

Directions to the Maryhill Road: Are you planning to ride the Maryhill Loops Road Saturday afternoon (or registered for the clinic in the morning)? Take SR14 east to US97. Continue east on SR14 1.4 miles past the Stonehenge Replica/Veterans War memorial. The road will appear on your LEFT shortly after. Turn left and ride up to the gate. You must have a current insurance card specific to you and your bike and a rally wristband in order to enter the road. No bike swapping at the road.

Featured road seminar and ride: Truitt Motorcycle Education presents Advanced Vision Concepts

The eyes are where it all begins when you're riding a motorcycle. If they're in the correct place, everything else can happen as it should, but when they're in the wrong place, that's when things go south. Spend some time learning proper eye placement in the classroom session, then take the ride that follows to practice what you learned on the road.

Featured Event: The Thursday Night Burger Feed

Last year's burger feed provided a great place for attendees to gather and chow down, getting to spend time with old friends and meet new ones as well on the front end of the rally. Well.. you asked for it, you got it again!

More Food: Sunday Morning Pancake feed

We do it right with Pancakes, scrambled eggs, breakfast meats, fresh local fruit and plenty of coffee and juice! Get a good meal before heading out on Sunday.

Maps and GPS Tracks - This year we'll have five suggested pavement rides and five suggested dual sport routes available as paper maps and GPS tracks, available for download to your device via our computers. Come see us at the front desk in the Community Building. Fun Run maps and tracks will be available on Friday morning prior to the start of the fun runs.

Need more rides? Order yourself a copy of our Paved or Dual Sport Gorge guides before you come, or pick one up when you arrive.

On-site Vendors - Shop with our visiting vendors and outfit you and your bike with the gear you've been needing.

Saturday Night Bike Show – Did you buy a motorcycle, only to spend as much as you paid for the bike, or more, on accessories and so on? Or do you own the epitome of a rat bike? Well then, you need to submit your motorcycle into our Saturday Night Bike Show and show us what you've got.

DirtFirst Basic Rider Sessions – We will offer two DirtFirst off-pavement classes this year. One for all, and a ladies only session. To find out more and sign up for one of the 4 hour clinics, click here.

Oregon Raceway Park Tour and Parade Laps - Here's your chance to tour and ride the track at Oregon Raceway Park to the east of the rally site in Grass Valley. You'll need to show your wristband for entry. Use our special paved back road route to get there. Tour starts at 11 sharp. Don't be late.

Rally Fun Run - We never use the same route over again. Our fun runs connect together some of the best roads in the Gorge. This year we have an all new route that'll have you grinning ear-to-ear from checkpoint-to-checkpoint. Separate pavement and dual sport routes. Aim to win part of the combined purse of $300.

Barrell Competition presented by Dirt First - This is a timed obstacle course off-pavement anyone can sign up to compete in on Friday night

Door Prizes - Arrive on time to our evening program and you may win one of our many door prizes provided by our vendors and sponsors.

Movies - We've got a few nice moto movies lined up for for several evenings. There's a little something for everyone.

Live Auction - Raise your hand and start bidding on the gear you need. It all goes to a good cause supporting our Gorge Kids Explorers Fund which provides needed funds for youngsters in the area to learn more about this wonderful place.

Fast Lane Coffee Service - Attention early risers, make your way over to the Fast Lane tent and grab a cup of complimentary Starbucks coffee every morning.

Need Tires? - You can pre-order your tires so they're waiting for you at the Rally. Don and his staff will bring your order to the rally and mount them for you on-site. For more information visit www.allmototire.com

Additional Clinics, Seminars and Presentations

Motofit Group Seminar: Making the most of a track day - we believe all types of educational training are better ways to improve your riding skills and have a closer relationship with your motorcycle. There's no doubt, track days fit into that recipe, so we've invited one of the Northwest's most innovative providers to share with you how to get the most out of your next track session.

27,000 miles of Adventure, Love, and Learning - Steph Terrien and Shal Wilson tell their story of inspiration, spectacular scenery, and brutal challenge, as they skirt the edge of defeat (in more ways than one), and dive into outrageous achievement on their BMW F650 GSs. In this presentation, Steph and Shal share the ups and downs of their North American journey, culminating in the record-breaking feat of being the first and only people to ride four (Shal rode five!) Backcountry Discovery Routes in one season…and that's after riding 14,000 miles from Seattle to Alaska to Maine to Florida.

Tire Changing and Tire Repair Seminar – David Petersen (BestRest Products) and Tracy Jeffries (Dirty Girls) will show you how easy it is to change a tire in the field.  They’ll share a few tricks that make the process go smoothly. They’ll also demonstrate how to make repairs on tubed and tubeless tires.

Introduction to the Rally in the Gorge - This slide show presentation will provide new attendees with details about the rally, and useful and historical information about the Columbia River Gorge Scenic Area.

Sound RIDER! Show Taping: We’ll be recording the Sound RIDER! Show live at the Giant Loop Community Building stage Thursday night following the Enumclaw Powersports burger feed and you are invited to be part of the live audience. Tom and Derek are working up a fun and perhaps sometimes bizarre program. We’ll be looking for rally goers who would like to come on the mics with us and share tips and tricks other riders need to know. Plus, we’ll be interviewing a few vendors and other guests. A movie will follow.

Suspension Clinic - Always a great way to start the rally. Dial your bike in for the good riding ahead with our suspension experts. Two sessions so you can get one in either way on Friday.

Maryhill Cornering Clinic w/Pete Chartrand & Jesse Murphy - SOLD OUT -  Pete Chartrand became a riding instructor shortly after his first visit to the Rally in the Gorge in 2003. He's never missed a year. It's likely Pete, more than anyone else has ridden the the most miles of anyone in the history of Maryhill Loops road. Jesse Murphy comes in a close second. Together the two have created a curriculum exclusive to the road that will provide technique and instruction you can learn for better street riding, while getting it all handed to you on the closed course. Always popular, you'll want to sign up early for this limited class. (additional fee applies)
